Are you a “Bachelor” fan?

By emoore | December 31, 2009

bachelorjakeSo are you a fan of the “Bachelor” on ABC? I’ve watched several seasons, but this season I will be watching with a ‘hometown’ perspective. The new “Bachelor” who you see to the left, is Jake Pavelka and he’s from my hometown of Denton. I don’t personally know Jake, but I know of him through friends and family.

I wish him luck. I’m not sure if he’ll find true love…he might and he might not. But it will be interesting to watch someone from the “Little D near the Big D” on the “Bachelor”.

By the way, the new season starts Monday, January 4 on KTBS. Let me know what you think.

Texas isn’t the happiest state??

By emoore | December 17, 2009

picture-004I feel like this is the perfect picture for this post. I took this picture on the way to see family in Austin. This water tower is north east of Austin in a community known as Rices Crossing. Just love it! Makes me smile!

According to a new study by the Center for Disease Control, Louisiana is the happiest state in the country. What??? While I’m happy for Louisiana (pun intended), I love so many things about my home state and it’s a surprise to know that Texas came in 15. So it’s not a terrible ranking, but I’m surprised Texas was not higher on the list. We have so much to be happy about in the Lone Star State. Texas is surviving the recession better than other states. There are not too many other states where you have flat dry land, piney woods and beaches…something for everyone.

So today, I’m thinking happy thoughts with hopes of keeping Texas a happy place. What makes you happy to be in Texas?

Thank you so much to each and every one of you who came to visit with us. There were some of you who drove specifically to Jefferson just to meet and eat with us. Thank you! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our visit.

Ten years later

By emoore | November 16, 2009

aggiebonfireIt doesn’t seem like it’s been 10 years since dozens of Texas A&M students were working early on a November morning, building their traditional bonfire and it collapsed. There were thousands of logs used to build the tall structure. I remember getting a call very early that morning and going down there to cover the story. As the first Waco reporter on the scene, we got there not long after the collapse happened. Students were still in shock, crying in disbelief that what is normally a fun event, turned tragic and killed 12 fellow Aggies. I remember seeing friends of the victims as well as parents, arriving on campus after they were notified what happened. I’ll never forget their faces. Parents who sent their kids to school and never thought anything like this would take the life of their child. There were also dozens of others injured.

There’s been a lot of question raised since that time about if a bonfire should be held on campus. Since then, there have been smaller bonfires off campus.

What do you think? Do you think a bonfire should be held because of tradition or to remember those whose lives were lost? Or do you think it’s too dangerous?

Our thoughts are with the 12 families who lost a loved one ten years ago.

Thank you!

By emoore | November 11, 2009

carthageveterans1As we were in Carthage for the Veterans Day ceremony, I had the opportunity to thank veterans there for their service. We don’t get an opportunity to thank them enough for our daily freedoms. Every single day, what we are free to do in our lives is because of those who served. We should also thank the families of soldiers for the daily sacrifices and challenges they face when a loved one is away.

Thank you to those who have served and are currently serving.

Thoughts with Ft. Hood

By emoore | November 6, 2009

ribbonThe events that happened on Ft. Hood Thursday afternoon changed the lives of so many. Brave soldiers preparing for deployment are faced with an attack on their home soil.

As you may know, my husband and I worked in the Waco television market and it’s where we met. We have both covered so many stories on Ft. Hood. Over those years, we met so many soldiers and so many civilians working on post, doing their jobs to protect our country.

We should always think about our soldiers and their families. If you would like to share you thoughts with those in this area who have loved ones at Ft. Hood, you may do so here.

Working in the rain

By emoore | October 26, 2009

marbizfloodSo I realize I am not alone when it comes to working in the rain. News doesn’t stop for rainy weather and in some cases, the weather makes the news so we have to be out in the elements. Even our camera has protective rain gear so that it doesn’t get damaged. This picture you see here is a perfect example. If you live in Marshall, you may recognize this shopping center and remember the day not long ago that flash flooding caused some big problems in the city.

There are police officers, linemen, mailmen and others who have to be out in the weather, no matter what it is doing outside.

So how has all this rain impacted you in your line of work or for your business? Does business slow down for you or pick up when the weather is dreary?
